What we're looking for

A roof inspection is a documented check of every slope, penetration and edge. The job is to separate functional damage from cosmetic marks and normal aging. Functional damage means the roof no longer sheds water the way it should: a fractured shingle mat, a puncture, exposed asphalt, a creased or missing tab, or failed flashing. Cosmetic damage is a dent or color change that doesn't affect performance.

Insurance adjusters make the same distinction when they decide a claim. A report that just says "hail damage" without it doesn't help you. Ours does.

How we inspect a roof

We mark test squares on each slope and photograph the damage with a scale reference. We also check the soft metals (gutters, downspouts, vents and AC fins), because dents there show the size and direction of the hail. Then we look at the parts that cause most leaks:

• Attic intake and exhaust ventilation
• Pipe boots and step or counter flashing
• Drip edge at the eaves and rakes, which the residential building code requires

Finally, we check your storm date against National Weather Service storm reports, so the damage is tied to a real, dated event.

What it saves you

The inspection is free. The alternative is filing a claim without documentation. Oklahoma wind and hail deductibles are often 1–2% of your dwelling coverage (Oklahoma Insurance Department). On a $300,000 home, that's $3,000–$6,000 out of pocket. An inspection tells you whether the damage clearly exceeds that before a claim goes on your record.

When an inspection isn't the first step

Why OKC roofs need a yearly look

Metro roofs take several small hail events a year, and most of them never make the news. On weathered shingles, granule loss from repeated small hail can add up to as much damage as a single large stone (Frontiers in Materials, 2025).
